Admission to the M.S. Chemistry Program

Students must have a suitable background and fulfill the following requirements:

  If this criterion is not met, the student may be conditionally admitted and additional course work will be required to make up any deficiencies in preparation for graduate study in chemistry.
 

 

Application Deadlines

Fall admission:  Application materials must be received by April 1st.

Spring admission: Application materials must be received by November 1st.

 

Written English Proficiency Requirement

Level One: newly admitted students are required to take the Graduate Essay Test (GET) (administered by the Testing Office) preferably before the first enrollment takes place, but no later than the end of the first semester of enrollment, to determine if writing deficiencies exist. If remedial work is necessary, the student shall be expected to complete prescribed course(s) in English.

Level Two: later in the process of completing the master's degree, the student is expected to demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in written and spoken English by successfully completing both CHEM 880 and a thesis.

 

Notification of Admission

A rolling admissions policy is used so that applications are reviewed shortly after all application materials have been received.  The Department’s goal is to inform applicants as soon as possible about their admission status.
